West Bromwich Collegiate Academy

West Bromwich Collegiate Academy

Completed in summer 2019, the newly built West Bromwich Collegiate Academy is the latest addition to the Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust portfolio.

The new £9.1m, 750-place 3 storey secondary school on a brownfield site in West Bromwich features 15 classrooms, a large dining hall with catering facilities, a library together with a suite for pupils with disabilities and special educational needs.

Working with Interserve Construction and M&E contractor Dodd Group, Palcon Energy Services Ltd assisted in the successful delivery of the project with the design and installation of the building management system to serve the new school.

Build with Trend IQ4e controllers at its core the design features a centralised MCP control panel to take control of the heating and ventilation systems throughout the building comprising a conventional gas to radiator system zoned heating system to serve communal and academic areas together with radiant panels in the main halls and lecture theatre.

Ambient conditions of general teaching / flexible spaces are maintained via NVHR units by Breathing Buildings all directly interfaced to the core building management system via Synapys SIP modules allowing for full interrogation of the 3rd party system.

Dedicated air handling units manufactured by Barkell provide ventilation to key areas of the building including the kitchen, main hall and lecture theatre are directly integrated into the building management systems core network.

Additional Synapsys SIP modules allow for real-time reading of electrical circuits throughout the building and gas and water consumption data is extensively monitored via the use of pulse meters all of which are accessible via the operator interface fitted to the control panel.

Further developments in the same batch with Interserve Construction and Dodd Group has seen Palcon Energy Services Ltd also successfully deliver similar schemes at Shireland Collegiate Academy (new teaching block and dining room extension) and George Salter Academy (new art block and dining room).
